Book News: Lone. Female. Jedi.
Dark Horse's next project?:
Posted: 30th June (UPDATED:
2nd July)
In an interview with affiliate
Galactic Binder, Randy Stradley, Vice-President of Publishing
at Dark Horse Comics, hinted at their next Star Wars project
with just three words: Lone. Female. Jedi. When asked "We
look forward to seeing what other surprises Dark Horse has for us in
the near future from our favorite galaxy far, far away. We’d ask
you for a scoop, but you seem rather unbreakable with such things.
Any chance we crack that tough exterior of yours for a one word clue
or teaser?", Stradley replied, "Three words, but
that’s all you’ll get from me. Lone. Female. Jedi. Make of that
what you will. Just don’t expect the news to break too soon."
We await with bated breath for such an announcement.
You can read Galactic Binder's full interview here .

UPDATE: In
response to speculation about his tease in the interview, Stradley
wrote on the Dark Horse Message Boards: "Don't get
too excited -- the book (assuming it actually happens) is in the
early, EARLY planning stages at this point. I just wanted to tease
you because I know how you love to speculate."

Comic News: Star Wars comics on
iTunes, soon:
Posted: 30th June
In a recent discussion on Dark Horse Message Boards, Dark
Horse Comics' Vice-Presisdent Randy Stradley confirmed that Dark
Horse are looking at ways of offering content on iPhone/iPod
Touch. Dark Horse Comics already offer the classic 4-part Terminator
story The
Terminator: Death Valley
via iTunes (part 1 available free) and according to Stradley
"we're going to kick off the Star Wars program with Empire:
Betrayal, The
Clone Wars: Shipyards of Doom, and Legacy:
Broken." Stradley acknowledges the difficulties this
new medium presents for comic storytelling: "everybody
wanted to start with Dark
Empire, but I felt that we needed to begin with something
easier to adapt to the small screen. You'll recall that Dark
Empire has a lot of full-page shots that might not look
so good reduced to one-sixth size or smaller."
Star Wars comics via iTunes (reasonably called Dark Horse
Mobile) should be available soon.

Affiliate News:
Lightsabre.co.uk is 10 years old:
Posted: 29th June
Affiliate Lightsabre.co.uk
celebrated its 10th anniversary on Thursday last week. Webmaster and
founder Mark Newbold commented: We almost can't believe
that it's been a decade since Lightsabre first ventured out into the
waters of Star Wars fandom. Back then the net was a vastly different
place, and the Star Wars universe a different world. We're
proud to say that we've survived a decade online. After a few bumpy
initial years, starting in 1995 as Q-Continuum, FantaWar and
Wirezone we opted to morph into Lightsabre in June 1999, and it's
been the best thing we ever did.
Star Wars Books congratulates Lightsabre.co.uk
in reaching their 10th anniversary and wishes every success for the
next ten years. |

Comic News: Han's Halloween
hi-jinks:
Posted: 25th June (UPDATED:
26th June)
As an alternative to handing out candy to trick-or-treaters this
Halloween, why not give a comic book instead! This Halloween Dark
Horse Comics will be making available a series of special 16
page mini-comics that contain a "little Halloween twist"
including a Star Wars story: Han Solo and his best pal,
Chewbacca, stumble upon something frightening when they become
stranded on a planet shrouded in a deep and mysterious fog....
Written by Steve Niles with art by Davidé Fabbri and Christian
Dalla Vecchia, this special mini-comic will be sold in bundles of
25 and made available weeks before Halloween. Although small
in size, the mini-comic is perfect to fit in the bags of local
trick-or-treaters and so is the perfect alternative to handing out
candy.
Full details of this & other Halloween mini-comics at Previews .
(Source: via StarWarsTimeline.com )
UPDATE: It
appears that the mini-comic will be a reprint of Planet of the
Dead which first appeared in Star Wars Tales #17 in
October 2003 and later collated in Tales:
Volume 5 graphic novel.

Book News: Blood Oath
postponed, again?:
Posted: 9th June (UPDATED:
23rd June)
It appears that Elaine Cunningham's much anticipated Legacy
of the Force sequel, Blood
Oath, has either been postponed again (it was originally
scheduled for release in April this year but had to be put back to
December because LucasBooks had not received Elaine's
manuscript in time), or even cancelled. This is because RandomHouse.com
have removed their listing and Amazon.com
have stopped taking Pre-Orders for this paperback. The last time Blood
Oath 'disappeared' from RandomHouse.com was when it's
release was re-scheduled from April 2009 to December 2009. However
since RandomHouse.com's listings can only list scheduled
releases for the next six months, it is possible (and more likely
than cancellation) that Blood
Oath's release has been put back beyond RandomHouse.com's
listing capabilities, i.e. it has been re-scheduled for release
beyond December 2009 for reasons, as yet, unknown.
Updates as we get them.
UPDATE:
Writing on StarWars.com Message Boards, LucasBooks'
Executive Editor Sue Rostoni wrote: We’re all doing our best to
keep it in the line-up and, if the manuscript comes in soon, the
book will be moved again, maybe to April 2010. If there’s no
manuscript, then it’ll have to be dropped. Events beyond the
author’s control, or wishes, have caused the delays. I know, that
really doesn’t tell you much, but it’s not my story to tell, ya
know?
For the time being it looks like this much anticipated story has
been postponed yet again. We would like to offer Elaine our best
wishes in overcoming those 'events' that have occurred.

Posted: 14th June

unknown, but expect the current 11th February date to move closer to

Book News: Book release updates
from Amazon:
Posted: 1st June
Some updates from Amazon regarding Star Wars books and
novels. The fifth book in the Rebel
Force series has been listed
for a New Year release (1st January 2010), and is as yet
untitled. In the UK, the paperback reprint release of Millennium
Falcon by James Luceno has been re-scheduled for 1st
April 2010. It was originally listed for release on 17th
December 2009, but since it was only released in hardback on 23rd
April 2009, this new date is in keeping with the normal year long
gap between hardback and paperback reprint releases.
Staying with the UK, there are also two new The
Clone Wars books for younger readers listed: Ambush,
a graphic novel adaptation of the TV episode, is a reprint of the
Grossett & Dunlap book
of the same name previously published in February; and Ryder
Windham's first book in a new series Secret
Missions: Breakout Squad will be published in the UK one
month after its US
release. Both Ambush
and Secret
Missions: Breakout Squad will be published by
Ladybird/Puffin in the UK on 1st October.
(All release dates & formats subject to
change.)
