[Fans' Favourites 2011] Fans' Favourites 2012 - The Results
During December last year and January this year we asked our visitors to vote for their favourite Star Wars books of 2012 in our third annual Fans' Favourites Poll. Visitors were asked to vote in  four categories: favourite novel/novella (published during 2012), favourite comic book story (published and/or concluded in 2012), favourite non-fiction title (published in 2012) and favourite Insider story (published in 2012). Star Wars Books & Comics are proud to announce the results:
  • Favourite novel/novella - Darth Plagueis by James Luceno
It can come as no surprise that Luceno's story detailing Sidious's master was last year's most popular novel given that it was previously cancelled before being resurrected for publication in early 2012. What is surprising is that it garnered nearly 3 of every 4 votes cast: 71.3%! This meant that second place was shared between Troy Denning's Fate of the Jedi finale, Apocalypse and Aaron Allston's X-Wing: Mercy Kill (both 8.33%).
  • Favourite comic book story - Darth Vader & the Ghost Prison by Haden Blackman et al.
Once again Blackman's Vader comic story was the most popular comic story from last year (his Darth Vader & the Lost Command comic story proved most popular in 2011) with just under a quarter of votes cast (23.53%). Blackman's story just beat John Ostrander and Jan Duursema's Dawn of the Jedi opening story, Force Storm (20.59%), while John Jackson Miller's final Knights of the Old Republic tale, War, was third (10.59%).
  • Favourite non-fiction title - The Essential Reader's Companion by Pablo Hildago
A clear winner was Hildago's tome cataloging all published Expanded Universe prose fiction (45.71%), while Jason Fry's Essential Guide to Warfare came second (17.14%). A surprising third was the updated Year by Year: A Visual Chronicle (11.43%). First released in 2010 (where it also came third in our Fans' Favourites poll), it was re-released last year in an updated and expanded edition.
  • Favourite Insider story - Heist by Timothy Zahn (published in Insider #138 [US] / #114 [UK])
In a new voting category, Zahn's tie-in short story to his Scoundrels novel was a clear winner with 40.91% of votes cast. Second was Alexander Freed's The Old Republic tie-in short story, The Last Battle of Colonel Jace Malcolm (13.64%) - published in Insider #137 [US] / #113 [UK]. While third place went to Jason Fry's The Guns of Kelrado-Ai (11.36%) - published in Insider #132 [US] / #108 [UK].

We would like to thank all those visitors who voted for their favourite Star Wars books of 2012. The full results can be found here.
