Synopsis:
This book contains the following stories:
  • It Takes A Thief by Matthew and Shawn Fillbach et al.
    MISSION TO DIADO
Jedi Master Saesee Tiin sits in a bar on the snow planet Diado, taunted by the local gang leader Birok for being a newcomer to town. Showing his strength by publicly humiliating Birok, Tiin is pulled aside by a girl named Na-Jia, who promptly steals his lightsaber. Demanding his weapon back, Tiin provides the girl with 600 credits and then makes his way down the street, where he is surrounded by Separatist droids almost immediately. Although he fights valiantly, a droid still manages to sneak up behind the Jedi. He is saved when Na-Jia unexpectedly returns, shooting the droid in the back. Tiin is ensnared by a rope flung from the back of Birok's speeder and dragged around town. The gang leader, not considering how useless a rope is when compared to a lightsaber, is awestruck as his "captive" escapes and defeats Birok's men. More droid reinforcements arrive, however, and Tiin is captured once more, along with Na-Jia. The Separatist officers, believing Na-Jia to be a Republic spy, take her in for questioning. Na-Jia, pretending to have a fainting spell, falls on top of an officer holding Tiin's lightsaber, and manages to snatch it. With the help of a weapon, the two are able to escape and steal a starfighter, which Tiin uses to distract the Separatists while Na-Jia escapes. Blowing apart the balcony where Birok and his Separatist friends are watching the goings-on, Tiin turns his guns upon the station's power core. His mission completed, the Jedi returns home, smiling as a purple-haired figure waves to him from the snow.
Occurs just before the events in Revenge of the Sith.

  • The Drop by Mike Kennedy, Stewart McKenney et al.
    RESCUE ON YORN SKOT
H.O.P.E. squad is assigned to Yorn Skot to rescue Jedi Treetower and retrieve the smuggled goods he was trying to intercept. They are orbitally inserted and land safely on a floating platform. Treetower's locator indicates that he is on the unipod on the underside of the platform.
The squad rappels down to get to him. Suddenly, four jump droids arrive. The commandos are "sitting ducks," and only the orange-armored trooper survives. He jumps on a droid and steals its jetpack. Another droid fires a stun net at him, and it shorts out his jetpack. He uses the net to lasso and mount the droid, and shoots the other two. He then catches a falling Master Treetower, destroys the droid he is riding on, and jumps back to his rappelling line. They climb back up and soon discover that the cargo is Ugnaught slaves.
Occurs just before the events in Revenge of the Sith.

  • To The Vanishing Point by Matthew and Shawn Fillbach et al.
    BATTLE OF MYGEETO
Jedi Master Ki-Adi-Mundi sits in his tent on Mygeeto, meditating as drops of water fall softly onto his head. He is drawn back to a time earlier in the Clone Wars, when he fought with Jedi Knights Rivi-Anu and Eon in a fierce battle. In the middle of the chaos, a starship was partially destroyed and fell from orbit, threatening to destroy the entire battlefield. Rivi-Anu, wounded and falling behind, made the decision to sacrifice herself. Exhibiting an exertion of the Force that astonished even Ki-Adi-Mundi, the girl held up the starship until everybody has evacuated. Back in his tent, the Cerean remembers the life of Rivi-Anu. When Commander Bacara enters with news that the troops are ready to deploy, Ki-Adi-Mundi rises, his meditation complete.
Occurs just before the events in Revenge of the Sith.

  • Means And Ends by Haden Blackman, Rick Lacy et al.
    PRISON BREAK
In an M'bardi prison, a riot has broken loose. Jedi Masters Kit Fisto and Plo Koon arrive to sort things out. The prisoners immediately unite against the two Jedi, and lightsabers are drawn. During the battle, the Jedi realize the difference in their views: while Fisto believes in the value of all life, Koon argues that "scum like this can't be rehabilitated". Defeating the rioters using their own personal methods, the two descend into the sewers, where they meet a two-headed thug divided into two personalities: one peaceful, one argumentative. Koon finally gives in to Fisto's arguments and chooses to knock the two out cold rather than kill them. Their escape is broken short, however, when the bounty hunter Durge appears, explaining that it was he who started the riot in order to lure Jedi into his trap. He is temporarily defeated when a boulder falls upon his head, an event triggered by the actions of the two-headed prisoner. Realizing that not all condemned are evil, Koon leaves the escape plan up to Fisto, who remarks that the prisoners should tag along to "watch our backs and earn time off for good behavior".
Occurs just before the events in Revenge of the Sith.
