Synopsis:
Twenty-one years have passed since the heroes of the
Rebel Alliance destroyed the (second) Death Star,
breaking the power of the Emperor. Since then, the New
Republic has valiantly struggled to maintain peace and
prosperity among the peoples of the galaxy. But unrest
has begun to spread; tensions erupt in outbreaks of
rebellion that, if unchecked, threaten to destroy the
Republic's tenuous reign.
Into this volatile atmosphere comes Nom Anor, a
charismatic firebrand who heats passions to the boiling
point, sowing seeds of dissent for his own dark motives.
In an effort to avert a catastrophic civil war, Leia
travels with her daughter Jaina, her sister-in-law Mara
Jade Skywalker, and the loyal protocol droid C-3PO, to
conduct face-to-face diplomatic negotiations with Nom
Anor. But he proves resistant to Leia's entreaties and,
far more inexplicably, within the Force, where a being
should be, is a blank space.
Meanwhile, Luke is plagued by reports of rogue Jedi
Knights who are taking the law into their own hands. And
so he wrestles with a dilemma: Should he attempt, in
this climate of mistrust, to re-establish the legendary
Jedi Council?

"Amazing!
I enjoyed the story, spending most of today finishing the last 200
pages.
"I was gripped from the first paragraph. This was my first time
reading Vector Prime or any of the New
Jedi Order books. I knew that the story was of an invasion from
the Yuuzhan Vong and I knew that Chewbacca died from a falling moon,
but that was about it. On top of that the first, and only, time Ii
had encountered Mara Jade, Jacen and Jaina before was during the Thrawn
trilogy. So Jacen and Jaina, along with Anakin, were totally knew to
me. However, Ii soon found that I got to know them very easily and
they easily fitted into the 'Hero family' from the films. As to
Mara, she felt exactly the same, though much nicer and no longer
obsessed with killing Luke.
"The sense of family was sometimes overwhelming. "I had
built this bubble around us, around all of us-you, me, Chewie, the
kids, Luke, Mara, even Lando. Heck even the stupid droids. We were
all in it, you know? In it and safe, a cozy family." This
describes it better than I could. It brought a smile to my face when
I got the sense of one big family.
"It really seemed like a proper Star Wars adventure. I found
the humour and sarcasm very funny, with Han and Chewie's bickering
in the TIE and Lando's "Don't call me kid" remark.
"It was very interesting to learn about the Yuuzhan Vong and
their biological weapons. I found the creatures they used very
strange and slightly creepy. Their hatred and contempt for humans,
the galaxy and especially Jedi intrigued me.
"There will be no planets left what with Sernpidal and Helska 4
being destroyed and Belkadan being made into a breeding ground for
the Yuuzhan Vong.
"I've read R. A. Salvatore's other Star Wars book, Attack
of the Clones, and wasn't overly impressed by it but Vector
Prime blew me away!" |

| Review by James Lee, Scotland,
2010: |

"This
is the start of a nineteen book saga that marks the invasion of the
Yuuzhan Vong. Mara's been struck down by an illness that is killing
her slowly, Jacen is also struck but by doubt about his and the
Jedi's path. But the last stand of Chewbacca (my favourite
character) was what this book is mostly known for and I think it was
right for Chewie to go the way he did as the hero that he truly was.
"The subtle way the Vong wormed their way into the galaxy was
typically Star wars, Luke and Leia have now to help their respective
wife/husband through personal tragedy while alerting Coruscant of
the impending invasion. Nom Anor is crafty, deceitful and
intelligent and having already started civil wars throughout the
galaxy (and poisoning Mara-jade) he makes you crave his superiors
from the Yuuzhan Vong knowing that this is just the beginning of the
destruction. Oh and their invisible in the force..." |
