Synopsis:
Kanan Jarrus may appear to be a cocky, sarcastic renegade fighting against the Galactic Empire alongside the rag-tag crew of the Ghost. But years before, at the height of The Clone Wars, he was known as Caleb Dume, Jedi Padawan under the instruction of Jedi Master Depa Billaba. Neither master nor apprentice ever suspected that the Clone Troopers they commanded would turn on them upon the issuing of Order 66—the order to execute all Jedi. How did Caleb Dume survive? How did he learn to survive on his own? And how did he become the man we know as Kanan Jarrus?

Chronology:
This story occurs approximately 4 years before Episode IV: A New Hope with the flashback stories occuring prior to, during and immediately after Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

Review by Darth Kondorr, Poland, 2016:

The Last Padawan:
Both in the old EU and in the new canon, there are tales of survivors of the great Jedi purge. I always felt most from the old EU were not really believable. So I was glad that Kanan Jarrus, a stellar Star Wars character got his survivor story in form of an equally stellar comic book.
I will not spoil the specifics, but Kanan is as likable as in the TV-show and the situations he is faced with are dramatic and sad while retaining a lot of action. It is also here that for the first time an old EU work is hinted at being more than just a mere legend, which is quite interesting (more on that in the next review).
As the story itself as is the art simply stellar. I cannot keep myself from praising the coherency and the quality of the new canon and this is yet another good example, how the reboot was a very brave and very necessary decision. But be mindful, this book is for those who know Kanan already, not for newcomers, although those will have their fun too… just not as much as us established fans.

Haunt:
The previous story and the next one is connected through this issue that takes place completely in the present day scenario. It is a short revisiting of the events shown in the earlier issues but by a maturer Kanan. We see the present day events evolve all the while Kanan deals with his ghosts of the past. As this is included in the first trade, if you came this far you owe it to yourself to keep on reading.
