Star Wars Books & Comics'
Star Wars Saga1 timeline lists all Story Group approved stories
and their approved media that form the Star Wars official continuity. This
a muti-media of films, TV episodes, novels,
short stories, comics, young adult novels, and children's books and
comics; and are listed in chronological order,
ie the recommended viewing/reading order. It also distinguishes the approved canonical media,
while the films of the Original and Prequel Trilogies have all had
various theatrical, VHS, DVD and Blu-ray releases and re-releases over the years as well as
novel and comic adaptations5
published, the approved format is currently the 2011 Blu-ray/DVD edition
(and subsequent re-releases of those versions) - all other formats/versions
are not approved formats.
Unlike the 25,921 year timeframe of the
Star Wars Legends timeline, at present the
Star Wars Saga1 spans just
66 years: from The Phantom Menace thru to
The Force Awakens;
and where the
events of A New Hope are used as a
convenient reference point.
1 Star Wars Saga is
not a Lucasfilm
endorsed term to describe the new official continuity, it was
created by this website to differentiate between
Legends stories (the former
Expanded Universe) and Lucasfilm Story
Group approved in-continuity stories.
2 DATE: Saga dating is
having occured either before or after Episode IV: A New Hope,
ie the events seen in A New Hope are classed as zero
year on the Star Wars timeline (as above). For obvious reason
this is not an in-universe calendar, it is only used as a
reference point within the real-world.
3 MEDIA FORMAT: Saga stories are told using a
variety of media: Film (first published as a
TV (television programme. To assist with
viewing order, episodes include season and episode number, eg TV
[Ep. 1.12] is Season 1, Episode 12); Book
(novel, usually first published in hardback, and may also
include children's books); Comic (usually first
published as individual comic books before being collated into a
graphic novel); Short Story (stories
usually published in Star Wars Insider magazine).
4 APPROVED MEDIA: A Saga
story's current approved media. This is the current media format
in which to enjoy the approved Saga story. Please note that for
Episodes I thru VI only the audio-visual version as
released on Blu-Ray in 2011 or on DVD in 2013 or Digital HD in 2015
(and subsequent releases on same format) is
classed as the approved version: novelisations of any of the films
(and other adaptations such as comic book, children's book,
etc.) form part of Story Group continuity only in so
far as where the novel's story aligns to that seen on-screen - the
rest of the adaptation's story is classed as
*Approved media for
original novel stories first published in hardback also include
the e-Book version, unabridged Audio Book version and, when released, the
- 6 Story/title not yet published.
