[The Star Wars]
A Readers' Guide to The Star Wars comic book series.

[]

The Star Wars is a comic book adaptation of George Lucas' 1974 rough draft script by J.W. Rinzler with art by Mike Mayhew. It will be published in 8-issues by Dark Horse Comics between September 2013 and May 2014.

In many ways this is the Star Wars that could have been. It features many characters that we have come to love (and hate) even if their appearances and roles seem somewhat different. In essence, The Star Wars is both familiar and yet strange at the sametime. May the force of others be with you.

COMIC BOOK COVERS|CHARACTERS|LOCALES

Longer ago, in a galaxy even farther away...
The Star Wars

Until the recent GREAT REBELLION, the JEDI BENDU were the most feared warriors in the universe. For one hundred thousand years, generations of JEDI perfected their art as the personal bodyguards of the emperor. They were the chief architects of the invincible IMPERIAL SPACE FORCE which expanded the EMPIRE across the galaxy, from the celestial equator to the farthest reaches of the GREAT RIFT.
Now these legendary warriors are all but extinct. One by one they have been hunted down and destroyed as enemies of the NEW EMPIRE by a ferocious and sinister rival warrior sect, THE KNIGHTS OF SITH.

[]
Other characters with recognisable names featured in The Star Wars include:

Biggs and Windom (aka Windy): the young sons of King Kayos and Queen Breha of the Royal House of Aquilae.

Owen Lars: an anthropologist working on Yavin (home of the Wookees), native of the planet Bastine.

Beru Lars: Owen's wife

Locales:
[]
Although set in a galaxy with numerous planets, The Star Wars, like each individual Star Wars film, limits the number of planets visited to a minimum. Of the four planets featured in The Star Wars three names will be instantly recognisable:
[]
Utapau: a blue planet with five moons - the Starkillers live on the fourth moon of Utapau.

Aquilae: a desert planet (similar toTatooine), home to King Kayos, Queen Breha, Princess Leia and princes Biggs and Windom.

Alderaan: a gaseous planet (like Bespin) and Capital of the New Galactic Empire. The Imperial city is perched, mushroom-like, on a tall spire, which disappears deep into the misty surface of the planet (just like Cloud City).

Yavin: Home planet to the Wookees, Yavin is a jungle planet covered in forests of gargantuan trees (similar to Kashyyyk).

Imperial Space Fortress: that's no moon!
